Course Description: This course is aimed at novice or intermediate end-users, programmers or system administrators who need to install, configure and maintain a SUN Solaris® 2.6, 7, 8 or 9 system.

This course is scheduled on request at our Glasgow city centre training room or on-site. Minumum 3 delegates. Course includes a delegate manual (in full colour).
       
What You Will Achieve: After completing this course participants will be able to:
- Install and configure Solaris® 7,8,9 on a desktop machine.
- Manage software packages and patches.
- Configure disk devices and manage file systems.
- Manage user and group accounts.
- Maintain and monitor system security.
- Automate and schedule system processes.
- Configure and troubleshoot the system start-up and shutdown procedure.
- Configure local and remote printer services.
- Perform backups and disaster recovery.
       
Who Should Attend: Intermediate to advanced UNIX users, novice to intermediate system and database administrators and programmers who require a full working knowledge of administering a Solaris® desktop system.
       
Pre-Requisites: This course is technical and fast paced and delegates should have:
- Knowledge of a commonly available text editor such as vi.
- Attended the Essential UNIX Part I and Part II courses.
- Some shell scripting experience - this is advantageous but not essential.
       
Course Content: Modules on: File System Hierarchy, Disk Management, File System Administration, Mounting File Systems, Installing Solaris 9, Installing Software and Patches, The Boot PROM, Managing System Start-up and Shutdown, Managing User Accounts, System Security, Automating and Scheduling System Processes, Backup and Restore, Configuring Printers.
