|
|
| Course Description: |
This course discusses system and network security and how system managers and administrators
can identify potential security problems and implement security measures on a system. The
focus of the course is on the inherent security vulnerabilities commonly found on Unix-like
operating systems and in network services and how to correct them. Examples are presented
which illustrate how to insure a high level of security confidence against unauthorized users
from accessing the system. The common methods used to attempt to gain access to a system, gain
unauthorized root access permission, become another user, plant trojan horses or spoofs, and
other ways of circumventing the normal system protection are disclosed. A detailed discussion
with examples is provided on how the network is exploited. Methods for detecting and securing
network security problems are discussed and the attendees are shown how to correct potential
problems with web services.
Each attendee will receive detailed audit checklists and sample programs programs which will
assist in performing security auditing and risk analysis and implementation of security measures.
Note: This course is applicable to Solaris, Linux, AIX, HP-UX, and other Unix-like operating systems.
Throughout the course it is noted where there are operating system specific differences.
