Course Description: This course will teach delegates how to perform the basic system administration tasks required for a Linux operating system. Topics include the duties and responsibilites of a Linux system administrator, installation of the Linux operating system, system startup and shutdown, adding/deleting users, managing printers, backing up and restoring system and user data, application package installation, and general administrative advice.

Although the Red Hat Linux Operating System is used as the training platform, the information in this course can be easily adopted to other Linux systems.
       
What You Will Achieve: After completing this course participants will be able to:
- Define the duties and responsibilities of a Linux system administrator.
- Install the Linux operating system.
- Start up and shut down a Linux system gracefully.
- Start, stop, and manage system services.
- Troubleshoot, repair and create new filesystems.
- set up and use the cron and at facilities.
- Add and delete user accounts and groups.
- Add and configure printers.
- Identify Linux floppy and tape device special files.
- Perform complete and incremental filesystem backups and restores.
- Use the tar archive program for data storage and retrieval.
       
Who Should Attend: This course is designed for new system administrators who will be performing system administration procedures on a Linux operating system.
       
Pre-Requisites: This course is technical and delegates should:
- Have attended the Introduction to Linuxncourse.
- Have at least 6-12 months experience on a Linux System.
- know how to perform basic Linux tasks.
- Understand basic Linux commands.
- Use the vi text editor.
- Read and interpret shell scripts.
- Use the command line.
- Know how to interact with a Linux windowing system.
