Course Description: This course introduces attendees to the Linux Operating System and provides the initial knowledge and hands-on experience to get them started using Linux quickly and efficiently. Subjects include an overview of operating system concepts, a discussion of the Linux architecture, how to log on and off, Linux system documentation, communications and status inquiry commands, the structure of the Linux file system, file and directory manipulation commands, process management, how to use the vi (visual) text editor, the use of the shell as a command interpreter and programming language, basic network commands, and the use of over 25 commands for data manipulation.

Although the Red Hat Linux Operating System is used as the training platform, the information in this course can be easily adopted to other Linux systems.
       
What You Will Achieve: After completing this course participants will be able to:
- Understand the major components and architecture of Linux.
- Login and logout of Linux.
- Use Linux system documentation.
- Communicate with other users on the system through mail and write.
- Manage and manipulate files and directories and their contents.
- Use a text editor to create and modify files.
- Use shell features such as file name expansion, I/O redirection, pipe.
- Use Linux tools to process data and text files.
       
Who Should Attend: This course is designed for attendees who will be using a Linux system to perform data manipulation and attendees who are preparing for a position as a Linux System Administrator.
       
Pre-Requisites: This course is technical and delegates should:
- Be familiar with basic computer hardware (terminal, keyboard, mouse).
- Have a knowledge of basic computer fundamentals.
